Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Building Construction Trainer to deliver both theoretical and practical instruction to students pursuing careers in the construction industry. The ideal candidate will have hands-on industry experience and a strong commitment to preparing students for employment through competency-based education and training.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver classroom and workshop-based training in building construction trades (e.g., masonry, carpentry, formwork, concrete works, finishing)
- Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessment tools aligned with curriculum and industry standards
- Provide hands-on demonstrations and supervise practical exercises in workshops or on-site training areas
- Assess and evaluate student performance through practical tests, assignments, and theoretical exams
- Ensure training delivery adheres to occupational health and safety standards
- Stay current with new construction methods, tools, and industry best practices
- Maintain tools, equipment, and training facilities in safe, working order
- Guide and mentor students in work readiness, soft skills, and job placement support
- Participate in curriculum review, professional development, and school events
Minimum Qualifications
- Advanced Diploma (A1) or Degree in Building Construction (A0), Civil Engineering
- Minimum of 2 years of practical experience in the construction industry
- Technical and Vocational teaching/training certificate (e.g., Pedagogy, ToT, or equivalent) or willingness to obtain one
- Knowledge of national or international construction standards and safety codes Ability to interpret blueprints, plans, and technical drawings
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Familiarity with Competency-Based Training (CBT) and Assessment methods is preferred
Desirable Skills
- Experience in delivering training at a TVET or vocational school
- Ability to use basic digital tools for teaching (e.g., PowerPoint, LMS, Google Classroom)
- Patience and commitment to student development
- Fluent in [local language] and English (or as required by institution)
Working Conditions
- Regular exposure to workshop or construction site environments
- May involve lifting, operating tools, and standing for extended periods
- Must adhere to and enforce strict safety procedures
